When Nissan launched a brand new all-electric vehicle in 2023, the hugely competitive EV market was saturated with new models designed to be high-tech, next-level practical, or futuristic re-inventions of beloved nameplates that were about to change the world.

Ariya needed to feel different and memorable. And most importantly, it needed to prove that Nissan didn’t make an EV because they had to keep up – they made Ariya for the same reason they’d been making cars for decades – because they’re seriously fun to drive.
